Comstruído in 1420 under the reign of Yongle of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), was baptized at the beginning and “Temple of Heaven and Earth.” It was the place where emperors offered sacrifices to both. In 1530 during the reign Jiajing (Ming ), with the completion of the Temple of Earth in the northern outskirts of the capital, its name was changed to the Temple of Heaven. Since then, the sovereign came here every year, the winter solstice, a given day the first lunar month and the first month of summer: They offered sacrifices to Heaven, prayed for good harvests, or worshiped the sun, moon and stars and the Gods of Wind, Thunder, and Rain Cloud.
