The Colosseum is a building built in the first century to accommodate mass entertainment, located in Rome, Italy. It had capacity for 50,000 spectators. It was built by the Flavian dynasty of the Roman empire, whence its real name, Flavian Amphitheatre.

Its size and unique design, which still is used as a model for construction of sports venues, he is considered one of the new seven wonders of the world.

Construction began in the reign of Emperor Vespasian in AD 70. It was inaugurated by his son Titus 80 AD, but would still be unfinished until 82 when the other son, Domitian added the top floor and basement.
