Let’s be honest, we all get bored of doing the same things every holiday. Sit at a bar, sun bathe, eat British food in a restaurant etc, well not this time. Should you go to Sydney, make sure you go against the grain and do some of these brilliant, unusual and most do tasks.

1. Visit the Red Light District

Now, you weren’t expecting that, I know, but this is an absolute MUST.

Sydney has an area called Kings Cross, which is very similar to somewhere like Soho in London. It’s the hub for an alternative night out. It’s the centre of the gay district, it’s the home of vice, but also the place with the strangest and most fantastic bars available.

Take in a burlesque show, or dance with a fire dancer, enjoy the exotic shops and have your mind expanded in some of the interesting cafes you’ll find in Sydney

2. Celebrate Christmas on Bondi Beach

Now, going to Bondi Beach isn’t anything shocking, but come December the 25th, as Santa fights through the snow around the world, at Bondi, he’s fighting through the sand.

Bondi has become the ultimate alternative Christmas location. Say goodbye to minced pies and Turkey and say hello to shrimps and a barbeque.

It’s a strange experience sun bathing during the Queens speech, but certainly an experience you’d want to repeat for years to come.

3. Sydney Harbour New Years Eve Party

Sydney indubitable has one of the iconic New Years Eve parties in, well, the world. Every year, it’s one of the first major cities to enter the New Year and as the rest of the world waits for their turn, they watch how Australia celebrates.

Every year there’s a wonderful and exquisite pyrotechnic and explosive fireworks display, but the fun doesn’t end there. As it’s the height of summer, the entire town is a party town, but the Harbour is the hub of this party.

You haven’t celebrated New Years until you’ve done it the Sydney way.

4. Help the Albatross of Manly Beach

Manly Beach is a popular tourist spot, where people go to soak in the sun, surf and just generally have a good time. A nice and alternative way to spend your time there is to help some of the local establishments who look after the Albatross population.

The usual issues like over fishing, nets and pollution is beginning to affect the local wildlife, so instead of merely sun bathing, taking an afternoon to help out and feed some sick animals is a great way to give back to Australia and keep it beautiful.
